From March 2020, monthly student passes for public transport will cover 120 trips

In order to qualify for receiving the monthly passes that include the 120 trips, students must be enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral program, and have one of the six non-bank cards: StudCard, ISIC Student, Euro> 26 Student, OMNIPASS, A Card / A Kártya or City Card Student.
Within the Urban Mobility thematic area, the Urban Innovation Unit aims to support measures that would reduce the time people spend in traffic in Cluj-Napoca, and that improve the daily commute to school, university or work. As a result of the Mobility Pact, one of the Unit’s pilot projects, as well as the different studies carried out by the unit’s team together with colleagues from the Cluj-Napoca Municipality, we noticed that only one third of the students use the free public transport monthly passes. As a result, we set out to test methods that might increase the number of students using the free monthly passes.
In order to improve the students’ experience related to the issuance and use of the monthly passes, together with CTP and the Cluj-Napoca Municipality we proposed that the passes be renewed annually instead of monthly, and that they include 120 monthly trips, instead of 2 pre-defined public transportation lines. As a result, starting in June 2019, CTP has started a campaign aimed at students, that changed the existing paper passes to electronic ones, also changing the validity of the passes from monthly to annual. And from March 1st 2020, students are able to obtain passes that include 120 trips.
