The Urban Innovation Unit (UIU) is being transferred to the Center for Innovation and Civic Imagination (CIIC) of Cluj-Napoca Municipality. Thus, CIIC is expanding its activity to integrate the processes and lessons learned together with UIU between 2017-2021.

The three main activities of CIIC will be:

• Public consultations. Since 2017, CIIC has been organizing public debates on various projects related to the development of the city of Cluj-Napoca. Starting with June 2022, with the support of the new CIIC Board, these public consultations will include new, interactive methods of debate. 
• International cooperation. With the support of the Board, the CIIC team will develop clear mechanisms for international cooperation with cities and city networks at European and global levels, for the exchange of experiences, good practices and collaboration.
• Annual grants for civic imagination and research projects
  • A civic imagination grant for neighbours, being offered once a year to groups of neighbours who want to test new ideas to improve spaces in their neighbourhoods.
  • A research grant, designed to solve various city challenges and aimed at independent researchers or academics who want to contribute to the development of public policies at the city level.

The new CIIC Board will support the new structure with integrating the lessons learned within UIU and will support the development of projects and strategic partnerships for the CIIC thematic areas. The first CIIC Board is composed of key actors who have been involved in the development of pilot projects within the Urban Innovation Unit, to ensure knowledge transfer.  More details about the Board can be found here.
